Tucson, AZ (where we at Central Alarm are based out of) has a less than stellar track record when it comes to crime, unfortunately. While the city may have an amazing culture, scenic landscapes and a staggering number of fun activities in and around it that draws plenty of people, with people can come crime.
According to a 2014 study, Tucson is ranked in the Top 10 nationally when it comes to property crime. The city sits at crime rates at 112% higher than the Arizona mean, 150% more than the national average, with the vast majority of it being property crimes. Of 38,657 reported incidents 35,185 of them are burgarlies, thefts, or vehicle thefts. While violent crime has substantially decreased over the years (though any is too much of course), the amount of property crime still maintains.
So with that knowledge, with those basic stats does that mean you need security systems? If you’re like the average Tucsonan, you move once every 3-4 years, which makes for one of the largest difficulties in the fight and prevention of crime. Rarely do we know our neighbors as well as we’d like and as everyone moves about it is hard to have an understanding of what the neighborhood normal is. Is that person in the alley way supposed to be there? Do they live nearby and are just tossing bulk trash or are they up to something more nefarious?
While you can’t see into the hearts and minds of others, you can certainly set up devices to monitor their movements and actions towards you home, and often that is enough. The sight of a security system (if it is openly displayed) can be enough to deter would-be criminals from targeting you and yours.
